Faculty Information

All faculty and first-year course instructors are encouraged to participate in the Day of Convocation to positively impact the success of our new undergraduate students.  Due to the ceremonial nature of the event, faculty and first-year course instructors will process in wearing regalia. All faculty and first-year course instructors are asked to RSVP below if they will attend. Faculty needing to rent regalia can do so here

Check-in

Faculty and staff will meet at 10:30 a.m. behind the North Basketball court on the concourse level of the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center (SAC).  The most direct access to the faculty lineup area is to use the southeast entrance of the SAC (nearest the Library) and proceed to the back of the arena. Directional signs will be placed throughout the concourse level.  Non-marchers are invited to participate in this commemorative event and sit in sections 112 and 116 of the arena.  Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served. All faculty must utilize a valid UNC Charlotte parking permit or park in the Visitor parking, similar to any other business day. 

Procession

All faculty and first-year course instructors will process into the ceremony at 10:55 a.m.  For the procession into the arena, faculty members will form two lines.  One line will move to the east side of the arena and sit in section 111 with overflow in section 110.  The other line will move to the west side of the arena and sit in section 131 with overflow in section 132.  Please fill the sections starting with the bottom rows. Formal academic regalia is required for faculty processing in the New Student Convocation ceremony. 

Regalia

If you would like to rent regalia for the New Student Convocation ceremony, place your order with Oak Hall at https://www.oakhalli.com/college/uncc/.  If you would like to custom order regalia, please contact Linda Burke at lburke10@uncc.edu.  The deadline to custom order regalia is Monday, July 24. All regalia is due back to the bookstore by Monday, August 28.

Non Marchers

Non-marching faculty and staff can seat in Section 112 of the Dale Halton Arena or with their college starting at 10:30 am.

Day of Convocation Activities

Collegiate and departmental specific programming will follow the New Student Convocation ceremony. College specific activities will be listed on the Day of Convocation schedule. The schedule is also included in the Niner DestiNation app available for Android and iPhone. Classes scheduled to begin between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm will not meet on Monday, August 21. Classes meeting at 5:00 pm or later will be held as scheduled.

Early requests are encouraged, two weeks will generally allow us time to provide seamless access.
